For each major label artist on the radio, hundreds of independents with equal ability, remain anonymous. The finance needed to produce and launch an album on a national scale, beyond the resources of many. What happens when these people become disenchanted, and drop out of the race? Are we allowing our ignorance of their existence to rob us of tomorrows Icons?

Before fame, The Beatles appeared destined to remain Liverpool’s best-kept secret. They had been rejected by EVERY MAJOR LABEL IN ENGLAND. Fortunately, rebel producer George Martin threw them a lifeline. Could every major label in England have been wrong? It seems so. In fact, much to their horror, they had unanimously turned their backs on the highest selling group in global music history

This book is a selection of candid and often amusing interviews with independent singer/songwriters around Australia. From the wide-eyed innocence of teens starting out, to the older more experienced musicians who have faced the disappointments and frustrations of competing against the major labels. Each published article concludes with the web links of the musician interviewed.

The idea being, that having been introduced to them as an individual, the reader can then visit their website, check out their music, and show much needed support. In addition, we talk to industry veterans Ross Wilson, Kate Ceberano, and Tommy Emmanuel regarding their time in the music industry.

As well as the man responsible for launching the careers of many music legends, here and overseas, Countdown host Molly Meldrum. “Icons of Tomorrow” provides music lovers with the unique opportunity to discover and help the unknown stars of today continue with their dream of becoming our Aussie music ambassadors of the future.

POSTSCRIPT:I'd like to take this opportunity to wish Molly Meldrum all the best for a full recovery. Also thanks to his assistant, Yael Cohen, who despite being busy, was always friendly and accommodating throughout my communications with her for this book.
